Write neutral questions and distinct choices

Identify the subject, time frame and decision in the question instead of asking readers to vote on a news headline alone. Separate factual sources from the author’s interpretation. Single-choice options must not overlap in meaning; consider whether other or unsure is needed. Positive, neutral and negative stances or topic-specific choices are displayed equally.

Explain what results represent

Results summarize voluntary participants and are not a representative poll of a country or demographic group. Percentages include participant counts and an aggregation time, with small samples identified. Operator-created topics and actual participation are counted separately.

Preserve the meaning of existing votes

Authors cannot edit a topic after voting starts. A meaningful question or choice change requires a separate topic, distinguished from the original discussion. Existing votes are not transferred to a different question. Report or contact us about a misleading ballot.

Check similar topics before posting

Similar topics are suggested before submission. Different time frames or choices may require separate votes. Duplicate discussions with votes or comments retain their records; link maintenance does not arbitrarily combine votes or change what participants answered.

Separate reports, blocking and moderation

Reports include reasons such as abuse, discrimination, personal information and spam. A report does not guarantee deletion. Temporary protective hiding is separate from a moderator’s final decision. Blocking controls your own viewing experience. Contact support to appeal a moderation decision.

Prevent abuse

Multiple accounts, automated votes and spam are detected by anonymously comparing connection information and applying progressive restrictions. Voting is available without an account. Writing comments and syncing participation history require sign-in; topic posting becomes available after seven days. Enforcement reasons, periods and moderator actions are recorded.
