Could rent support for young people push rents up?
The immediate reduction in a tenant's financial burden from youth rent support should be considered separately from its possible effects on rent-setting. Outcomes may vary with housing supply, the size and eligibility rules of the support, and whether landlords know a tenant receives it. The question does not assume assistance necessarily raises rents. It invites discussion of changes in actual payments, moves between homes, costs after support ends and how support can be combined with more supply and tenant protection.
