Busan police review missing-person cases after Jeju investigation controversy

Following controversy over the allegedly false closure of a Jeju missing-person case, the Busan Metropolitan Police Agency began reviewing how closed missing-person cases within its jurisdiction had been handled. The reporting distinguished between the large number of closed cases and whether individual decisions to close them were appropriate.

It does not mean that every case under review was mishandled. The central issues are procedures to directly confirm a missing person's safety, documentation and oversight of case closures, and a system that leads to reinvestigation when improper handling is found.
